Party: B.LOW is back with… Headhunter!

I couldn't be more pleased to anounce that the mighty B·LOW nights are finally back after a 2 month intermission! As you might know we had a major problem with our last venue (sala BeGood) because in good Barcelona tradition they didn't have a licence to operate a club until 5 AM, and so the local police decided to check it out and the rest of the story you can read here (although now we  know that the police weren't the ones to blame)...

Problems apart, the next night will be held at the world famous Sala Razzmatazz on the 18th of February! Our guests for the night will be Headhunter and Volatil, accompanied by B·LOW crew members Cardopusher, 23Hz & Numaestro, Subsound and our host MC Stormy.

We also have a new website, which is still in construction, but where you can already check out our next nights and, most importantly, subscribe to our newsletter!

Photos: Barcelona NYE Bash!

After a few days of much deserved rest and holidays I'm back to business as usual. Logically, the first post of 2010 is about the last party of 2009, the 2009 NYE Bash @ Culture, Barcelona. This night was absolutely crazy: lots of people, crazy vibes, crazy music and not much sleep... I didn't make any pictures myself but Eva kindly sent me some really nice pictures of the night. Here you go!

If you were @ the party and you've got more pictures please send them to me, to info at mrgasparov dot com.

Chorizo Show Dubdecade

This December the 17th of December we're gonna do a Chorizo Show Christmas Special at Sala BeGood, where we usually run B·LOW. This night will be a massive Christmas themed back to back between Tuffist, Maxpowa, Cardopusher, Nehuen, Egres, Satta B, Cram! and Trast1 and, given our heightened Christmas spirit it will be FREE before 1:00 and €5 til 3:30. So, until the full-sized B·LOW night returns in January you have a nice Chorizo Show to keep you warm :)

Satta B on a graphic design tip

Satta B + B·LOW!

Satta B + B·LOW!

Satta B, also known as Matt Bovey, is part of the Chorizo Show/B·LOW family and DJs regularly in al our events, but he's also responsible for the design of the whole B·LOW graphic identity.  It's on that side of his creative output that I wanted to focus because I think his graphic design, illustration and tipography work are all excellent! Make sure you check out his stuff on his online portfolio.

B.LOW #7 busted by the police!

banksy-christies

Yesterday at around 2:30 the Mossos d'Esquadra (local Barcelona police) infiltrated our B·LOW night with five or six undercover agents! They came in, went on top of the stage and backstage room, and later demanded that we end the night at 3:15 (against the normal 5:00). I still have absolutely no idea why but will investigate and let you know. All I can do right now is apologise in the name of the whole B·LOW crew to all the people who were there and had to leave early, with the complete certainty that we, the organization and DJs of this night, are not to blame, as this inspection could have happened any other night at BeGood...

Apart from this completely unexpected shit, the night was shaping out to be massive, with an early set by Subsound b2b last-minute guest David M, followed by myself and later by Octa Push. Pure niceness and good vibes inside only to be ruined by the evil babylonians. Unfortunately, bigman Nehuen and 23Hz & Numaestro couldn't play but will surely be rewarded on future B·LOW nights!

To sum it up: fuck the police!

Mix & Interview: Cardopusher

I've been waiting for this feature for a long time and now here it is! The first in a string of exclusive mixes & interviews from wicked producers and DJs!

The first guest of honor is badman Cardopusher. Born in Caracas, Venezuela he now lives in Barcelona and is part of the Chorizo Show / B.LOW family. Belonging to a generation of amazing Venezuelan producers - think Pacheko, Pocz, Emmerson, Sesped - he's insanely talented, a big DJ and a very nice guy. His productions are extremely varied and creative and he has released tunes in labels such as Hyperdub, True Tiger, Ad Noiseam or Offroad Recordings. I asked him a few questions and he kindly recorded a mix for mrgasparov.com. Thanks Luis!

Interview

When did you start making beats, what were your influences then?

I started to make beats around 10 years ago, it was just like messing around with loops on Sony Acid, i got very into it at the first time i tried. My influences were mostly IDM from the old era of Warp and Rephlex records. It was difficult with no internet by that time to listen to underground music.

When did you first listen to dubstep and what was your reaction?

It was weird. I listened to some of the clips of the Grime and Grime 2 compilations on the Rephlex website after taking a look at the reviews of both records. With a first listening i didn´t realize it was a new genre, for me it was like a darker 2step music.

Give your definition of dubstep. Where do you see it going in the near future?

To be honest I'm very bad giving definitions but for me dubstep is bass music, i think dubstep is taking different directions and people is experimenting with new things. Not sure if it should be called dubstep nowadays.

How's the scene in Barcelona?

It´s great. I think i did the right choose when moving to Barcelona. I met good friends here who has the same passion for music as i do and we all get influences from each other every time, that´s why i love being part of the Chorizo / B.Low family. It´s the same feeling i have with my venezuelan homies who have been working hard everyday since i left home. Big ups to them!

Next releases and future plans?

For the moment i have lined up some stuff including some remix jobs for Filastine,Migrant (forthcoming on Corsario Digital) Moldy, Badawi (forthcoming on The Index) Kid606 and his new project, a 12" on On The Edge, a 12" on True Tiger and many more. All this stuff is finished just waiting to see the light soon.

And the next B.LOW guests are… Octa Push!

octapush_bcn

Still shaken by the unbelievable night yesterday @ B·LOW we already start thinking about the next one! Yesterday night we had Mala, Goth Trad and Sgt. Pokes and it was just too much... Mala destroyed the dance with the original DMZ style; Goth Trad, there simply are no fucking words to describe it; Pokes, the godfather of all MCs. Even after having to stay at home for 3 days because of a nasty flu the bass managed to keep me alive until late in the night! Truly amazing...

But well... this one is gone so lets talk about the next B.LOW. It will be a bit later than usual, on the 26th of November, and the special guests will be our extended family members Octa Push, who will be playing their deadly live act. More news on this soon! Meanwhile have a virtual sticker and a piece of code so you can stick it on your site!

Get ready for B.LOW #6 // Goth Trad Promo Mix!

In anticipation of next week's B·LOW night in Barcelona (check the details here) I'm posting here a promotional mix that Goth Trad did for Faze2Agency. For those of you who don't know him here's his artist bio:

Japan’s Dub Step Don Goth Trad has released 5 albums and his 6th album is in the pipeline. A regular feature on the Deep Medi Music label, 2009 sees Goth Trad remixing & collaborating with Foreign Beggars & Skream as well a string of 12’s on Deep Medi Music.

So, Goth Trad is an absolute badman! I had the pleasure of booking him for Boom Festival 2008 in Portugal and his live set left everyone crazy! Here are some videos:

And finally, the mix!
